This was my final shoot for this project 'Looking at Place', as you can see I have refereed my practice back to the work of Ole Birkeland in the tv series Utopia. I have done this by increasing the vibrancy of the colours shown within my photographs, this makes the images themselves look more surreal and the tire marks through the grass then add to this effect. As you can see, I have taken more photographs using a landscape profile because it seems this works better to show the effect of the imprints in the grass. The lighting on this final shoot was difficult to deal with because it was low lying bright sunshine which thus created a lot of areas of high and low light with shadows, this makes exposing the photograph correctly difficult. Overall I'm happy with how this last shoot went because I managed to find quite a few tire marks in different places within the residential area, which are imprinted in places don't make sense to the viewer which gives the photographs a surreal look to them which is in keeping with my projects theme. Below are my favourite images from this shoot.
This image relates to what I was previously saying how the light conditions were difficult to shoot in, I feel I managed to pull the shadows back and dim the bright areas in post production to make the image look more balanced. I like the composition its self because it shows the tire mark, curve through the centre of the frame and seem to disappear into the house, which will make the viewer think where the vehicle drove to.
I think this image may be one of the strangest photographs of tire imprints I captured throughout my project, because it makes no sense for a car to mount the grass in the place it did to drive up onto the hill. Also there are multiple impressions made in the grass which shows this happened a few times making the shot more interesting. This is also the only image which doesn't show the residential area these photographs were taken in, this is a disadvantage for the image but I think if its viewed in a series with the others its obvious what type of area it was taken in.
Out of these six images I think this is the weakest and doesn't really fit in with the others, I think this is because the colours in the image don't jump of the screen with the same vibrancy that the other photographs show.
This image has a much more confined composition compared to the other photographs, due to the houses and road being much closer together which meant this patch of grass was in a smaller area than the other photographs I took. Even so, this image fits nicely in the series due to the vibrant grass and the imprint curving round through the screen. I've realised that tires imprints which curve create good photographs because it gives the image movement which reflects the moment the car made the impression photographed.
This final shoot concludes my 'Looking at Place' series. Overall I'm happy with how my images turned out, and feel that my idea progressed quite a lot throughout the course of the project but I managed to show how each change in idea connected to the last.
